Bases are the main way to play Characters and one of the ways to win the game. All Bases have Base Points (or BP) that when that Base's points reach 0, the Base is destroyed, also all Bases have 'Defense Counters'. You cannot have any duplicates of Bases in your Deck. You can activate a Base's effect during your Base, Recruit, or Defense Phases, if an Energy Source is powering the Base. Most Bases have an alignment. There are 4 types of Bases: Main Bases, Battle Platforms, Fortresses, and Starships. Bases can be played during your Recruit Phase and you can only play 1 Base per turn.
Main Base: Main Bases cannot go into your Deck. Main Bases are immediately played when the game begins. Destroying a player's Main base is one of the goals of the game. Most Main Bases will have 8000 BP. You must have a Main Base for your Deck, and cannot have more then one Main Base.
Battle Platform: Battle Platforms can only be played next to the Character listed on the card. The Platform gives the bonuses to the Character and follows the Character in the square behind the Character. If the Character is destroyed, destroy the Base. You cannot Recruit a Character with a Rank of 5 or higher from a Battle Platform. Most Battle Platforms will have about 4000 BP. You can have any number of Battle Platforms in your Deck.
Fortress: Fortresses are strongholds for a Character type. Fortresses give a bonus to Characters defending it. Most Fortresses have about 6000 BP. You can have up to 3 Fortresses in your Deck.
Starship: Starships are the Offensive bases. Starships offensive effects can only be activated when the Starship is attacked instead of defending. If a new planet is played, Starships do not lose their Defense Counters. Most Starships have about 4000 BP. You can have up to 2 Starships in your Deck.
There are various rules for Bases:
General Rules: You cannot have any duplicates of a Base in your Deck. You can have 1 Main Base, 3 Fortresses, 2 Starships and any number of Battle Platforms. You can only play a Base once per turn. And you cannot play a Base during the first round.
Recruiting: Recruiting is the easiest way to play a Character. Once per turn you can recruit a Character to a Base who's Rank is less then or equal to the number of Defense Counters your Base has. You can recruit a Character for each Base you control each turn.
Defense Counters: Defense Counters are how a Base protects itself from being destroyed. During your Base Phase, all of your Bases gain the number of Base Counters on the card. (The X Counters/turn). You can remove any number of Defense Counters when the Base takes damage, to reduce the damage by 500 points. Defense Counters also are the base for Recruiting.
Effects: Effects on a Base can only be activated if the Base is powered. To power up a Base, you need to place an Energy Source in the base. For more information about Energy Sources, check the Energy Sources post in this Discussion area.
